Many Mountlake Terrace residents will experience at least one tooth emergency in their life. You could break a tooth playing a sport, accidentally dislodge a crown, experience sudden pain caused by an abscess or break a wire on your braces. In the case of a dental emergency, it is essential to see your dentist as soon as possible!
Following are some immediate treatments:
Broken Tooth : Save any tooth fragments. Rinse mouth with warm water. If the area is bleeding, apply a piece of gauze. A cold compress held on the cheek can reduce swelling and lessen pain. Visit your dentist as soon as you can.
Lost Filling : Save the filling if you can. It can help your dentist determine why it came out. Do not let food get stuck in the hole left by the filling. Do not chew on the tooth. Brush it gently. Call your dentist’s office to schedule an emergency appointment right away.
Displaced Crowns : If there is pain, you may apply a dab of clove oil with a Q-tip to the affected tooth (a common home remedy that may reduce pain). Save the crown. If you can’t see your Mountlake Terrace dentist immediately, you can apply dental cement (available at drugstores) or denture adhesive to temporarily re-attach the crown until you can get to your dentist. Do not use other types of glue or adhesive.
By visiting your dentist as soon as possible, you avoid pain, infection and possible further tooth damage. If you delay treatment, even for a few days, you risk needing more extensive treatment later.
Do you have a special event coming up?
Perhaps a wedding, graduation, milestone birthday, anniversary, or reunion? These celebrations usually involve a lot of photographs and, of course, you want to look beautiful. You may not have time to lose 20 pounds, but you can dramatically perfect your smile with cosmetic dentistry .
Here are five cosmetic dental procedures that can usually be handled in one office visit.
Porcelain veneers have been a well-liked treatment for decades but we never fail to be amazed by the terrific results they deliver. A veneer is a super-thin layer of porcelain bonded permanently to the tooth. A veneer can cover a chip, hide a crack, make discoloration disappear, or repair a misshapen tooth.
2. Gum Contouring
Perhaps your teeth are brilliant and healthy but you have a gumline that is too low or too high and detracts from the presentation. Gum contouring can reshape the gumline and transform your smile. Book a consultation with Dr. Hrankowski today for a thorough examination and savvy guidance regarding your gumline.
3. Enamel Shaping
Just one slightly misshapen tooth can downgrade the aspects of a smile even if all the other teeth have an attractive appearance. (Your mouth is no place for a sore thumb, right?) Let Dr. Hrankowski reshape the tooth so it blends in seamlessly.
Dental bonding just gets better and better as additional innovative materials are developed. Bonding is used in a multitude of applications to repair teeth with cosmetic and structural problems. The newest prep techniques are minimally invasive – leaving you with more of your own tooth structure.
5. Teeth Whitening
Make your smile pop with professional in-office teeth whitening . There is nothing like an extraordinary white smile to give you optimal confidence.
Cosmetic dentistry is an investment that will bless you with increased morale every day. We look forward to getting your smile ready for all those hugs, laughs, and, of course, pictures.

Some Mountlake Terrace residents who have a weak or broken tooth may want to research dental crowns as a solution to improve their smile and overall oral health. A crown is really a cap or covering that is tooth-shaped and when it is in place, it will cover the portion of the covered tooth that is above the gum line.
Crowns can be made of metals, resin, ceramic, porcelain, or a porcelain-fused-to-metal material. Your Mountlake Terrace area dentist will usually put in a temporary crown while a permanent crown is being created especially for your mouth in a dental laboratory.
Dental crowns have been used successfully in Mountlake Terrace cosmetic dentistry for decades.
Many Mountlake Terrace, Edmonds, and Shoreline dentists use crowns when performing smile makeovers to cover patient’s discolored or poorly shaped teeth. Strong, natural-looking crowns are also used with dental implants .
If you think a dental crown may be right for you, check with your Edmonds dentist. Or, if you are searching for quality dental care in the Edmonds area, call us here at Emerald City Smiles . At Emerald City Smiles in Edmonds, we restore decayed teeth to create smiles that are both healthy and beautiful. Recent advances in both techniques and materials have made the impossible not only possible, but affordable for everyone in Mountlake Terrace as well.
Decay is the most common Mountlake Terrace dental problem and the second most common disease in the nation (number one is the common cold). If you have one or more teeth with decay, it’s time to take care of them.
Fillings, inlays, onlays and dental crowns are used to restore teeth for our Edmonds cosmetic dental patients. Even the most basic procedure – filling a cavity – has evolved. There are several types of new materials available including porcelain and composite resin. Each has specific strengths and aesthetic considerations. Mountlake Terrace patients who replace silver amalgam with tooth-colored fillings love getting the metal out of their smile.
Inlays and onlays are more extensive restorations. There are two types: direct or indirect. Direct inlays and onlays are made in your Mountlake Terrace cosmetic dental office on the spot and applied in one visit. Indirect inlays and onlays are fabricated in a dental lab. They usually require a second visit but the results are well worth the extra trip.
When a patient has a tooth that cannot be restored with an inlay or an onlay, a natural-looking crown is the answer. At Emerald City Smiles, we create crowns that blend in perfectly with the rest of your teeth. Let us show you some photos of patients who have received smile makeovers you will not see any Chiclet crowns that stick out like a sore thumb. In fact, you won’t be able to tell which of our Mountlake Terrace dental patients have crowns.
Today, weâre discussing the water flosser, also known as interdental cleaner, interdental irrigator, or water jet. The first water-shooting device for cleaning between teeth was created in the early 1960âs by Colorado dentist Dr. Gerald Moyer and John Mattingly, a hydraulics engineer. The tool is now known by the brand name Waterpik, though many people use the term generically. Since its origin, many other companies have entered the market with similar products. (Note: Emerald City Smiles does not necessarily endorse any specific brand.)
A water irrigation gadget oscillates a stream of water through a small, targeted tube to shoot out particles of food and plaque from around and between teeth. To use it, you insert the tube into your mouth, turn it on, and then lean over the sink with your mouth slightly open to let the water dribble out as you maneuver the stream of shooting water around the gumline, stopping momentarily at each gap between adjoining teeth.
There have been over 65 studies that have confirmed the safety and efficacy of water flossing for calculus reduction, plaque biofilm removal, bleeding reduction, inflammation reduction, and gingivitis care.
Should I Use a Water Flosser?
If you donât floss at all, absolutely. If you have gum disease, possibly. It may also help you keep your teeth and gums healthy if you have braces.
First, speak with Dr. Nejad to obtain an oral care treatment plan that factors in your tooth and gum health, physical dexterity, and lifestyle. The following factors may affect whether or not Dr. Nejad guides you to use an interdental irrigation device.
- Braces or other orthodontic appliances
- A physical restriction that decreases ability to brush and/or floss
- Gum disease
- Gums that bleed when flossing
- Bleeding around dental implants when flossing
- Aversion to flossing
- Sensitive teeth
The passionate team at Emerald City Smiles would love to help you learn the best techniques for keeping your gums pink and healthy and firmly attached to cavity-free teeth. To schedule an appointment , call 425-775-3446 .

In Washington, tooth decay is one of the most common childhood problems, yet tooth decay also affects adults. Our mouths are full of bacteria. In fact, hundreds of different types of bacteria live on our teeth, gums, tongue and other places in our mouths. While some bacteria is helpful, other bacteria plays a role in the tooth decay process.
Emerald City Smiles in Edmonds serves people from 50 to 100 years old to help fight tooth decay.
Bacteria is a common cause of tooth decay. Bacteria live in your mouth and combine with plaque and acids to break down the enamel coating on your teeth. The breakdown of your tooth enamel can often result in the development of small holes in your teeth which are known as cavities.
Tooth decay is typically a result of diet and oral hygiene choices. When sticky foods are consumed and allowed to sit on the teeth, or foods full of sugars and starches are consumed frequently throughout the day, tooth decay can result. Foods to avoid include soda and sugary chewing gum; these foods tend to stay around for a while and create an environment where bacteria thrive.
Repeated and frequent exposure to acid causes the tooth enamel to lose minerals. As a result, a white spot may appear where minerals have been lost which indicates early tooth decay. At this point, tooth decay can be reversed. Using minerals from saliva, fluroride toothpaste and other sources can help reverse the decay. But if the decay process continues resulting in more lost minerals then the enamel is weakened and destroyed resulting in a cavity. A cavity is permanent damage that a dentist has to repair with a filling.
To help prevent tooth decay , simply limit sugary and starchy foods between meals. Also, brushing at least twice a day with a fluoride toothpaste , flossing at least once a day, and visiting your local Mountlake Terrace dentist in Washington for regular check-ups and cleanings will help prevent tooth decay.
Hello, my name is Dr. Meisam Nejad. My practice, Emerald City Smiles, is located at 6100 219 St SW, Ste 530 Mountlake Terrace, Washington.
Mountlake Terrace cosmetic dentistry is part science and part art.
Iâm Dr. Meisam Nejadi of Emerald City Smiles and enjoy using my extensive dental training and artistic skills to design treatment plans unique to each of my Mountlake Terrace cosmetic dental patients.
In order to achieve an attractive, yet natural looking result, I do much more than recommend specific procedures. I consider the shape, alignment, color and condition of the teeth. In order to create a balanced look, the facial shape and coloring is taken into account. The Edmonds dentistry patientâs age, health condition and lifestyle all influence the plan.
At Emerald City Smiles, there is no one-size-fits-all treatment plan.
My artistic abilities have been perfected over several years of creating smile transformations for my Mountlake Terrace and Edmonds cosmetic dentistry patients. Even fairly recent cosmetic dental procedures such as teeth whitening and porcelain veneers have advanced considerably. Dental implants are a truly remarkable solution for our Washington dental patients who have lost one or more teeth.
I would love to perform a personalized smile makeover for you. When the work has been completed and you are enjoying your new look, it will only be obvious to those who see you all the time. Others will assume you have always been blessed with a naturally beautiful and healthy smile.
I offer free consultations for all new patients.
For those of you in the Edmonds area who feel pain when you sip your morning coffee or who cringe each time you brush or floss, Emerald City Smiles is here for you.
The first line of defense against tooth sensitivity is proper oral hygiene. Incorrect brushing and over-brushing can result in receding gums, which leads to the exposure of microscopic tubules in the dentin. When these tubules are exposed, acidic, hot, cold, and sticky foods can then reach the nerve cells in the teeth causing discomfort.
Here in our Mountlake Terrace dentistry practice, our passionate staff can determine if your brushing style is contributing to your tooth sensitivity problems and get you on your way to proper oral care habits.
Dr. Meisam Nejad usually recommends an over-the-counter desensitizing toothpaste that helps alleviate tooth pain after several applications. Most Edmonds area drugstores carry it. However, some Mountlake Terrace patients may need in-office procedures such as fluoride gel treatments available at Emerald City Smiles.
Donât worry if you have sensitive teeth in Mountlake Terrace and want to have your teeth whitened . Here at Emerald City Smiles, Dr. Nejad can determine which professional tooth whitening or at-home whitening procedures will work for you.

The very idea of visiting a dentist holds a negative connotation for many people. If you are an adult with dental anxiety, or your child is preparing to visit the dentist for the first time, here are a few tips that may help ease you into regular dental checkups and put you on the path toward increased oral health and wellness.
Choose a dentist in Mountlake Terrace who is appropriate for your needs. When you meet your new Mountlake Terrace dentist for the first time, make an effort to ask questions about the care you will receive. Be sure to speak with your dentist about his/her experience, age range of patients, and recommended procedures for any problems you may have. Get to know your Mountlake Terrace dentist so you feel comfortable and relaxed.
Be prepared to provide your Mountlake Terrace dentist with information. Whether you are experiencing specific pain at that moment, or anticipating a problem, be sure to discuss everything with your dentist. Many patients become intimidated in the office environment and avoid expressing pain or discussing issues. As your dentist, I need to know your history and everything you are experiencing. I will be better prepared to help if I have accurate and complete information.
There is no need to feel self-conscious if it has been a long time since you have received dental treatment. I have treated many first-time patients in your situation and have developed a trusting relationship with them.
The best way to have a good experience with a new dentist is to communicate. Let me know what you are experiencing so that I can make adjustments and help you feel more comfortable and secure. If we determine that you are going to need a critical dental procedure more extensive than filling a cavity, letâs discuss sedation dentistry .
At Emerald City Smiles our passionate staff will work to make your dental experience a pleasant one. We know it can be uncomfortable to visit the dentist for the first time or after a long while. Weâll do what we can to make you feel relaxed, secure, and among caring friends.
Ouch! The mouth is a bad place for injuries, sores, or inflammation. It seems that even the smallest irritation in the mouth can cause serious discomfort for Mountlake Terrace dental patients. These non-specific irritations in the mouth have a name. They are called stomatitis .
A good general definition for stomatitis is the inflammation of the membranes in the mouth. These usually affect a personâs ability to speak, eat, and even get to sleep at night. If you suffer from mouth sores, you know that stomatitis can really impact the lives of Mountlake Terrace, Edmonds, and Shoreline residents.
Some common causes of stomatitis can be canker sores, cold sores , gum disease , biting the inside of your mouth or your tongue, burning your mouth, and irritation caused by braces or broken teeth. Many sores in the mouth will generally clear up on their own in less than two weeks.
However, your Edmonds dentist can determine if it is caused by a viral or bacterial infection, and they can also advise you on treating the symptoms of stomatitis with pain relievers and at-home remedies such as salt water rinses.
