At Emerald City Smiles, we offer the following types of sedation dentistry.
- Minimal Sedation
- Moderate / Conscious Sedation
- Deep Sedation
- General Anesthesia
- Nitrous Oxide
- Oral Conscious Sedation
- IV Sedation
ORAL SEDATION
Oral sedation, the most common sedation option, is the lightest form of
sedation dentistry and is often used for patients with mild anxiety. With
this option, you are given a pill the night before the appointment and
a pill to take just before the dental appointment. While you are awake
during the procedure, you experience no stress or anxiety. It typically
takes a few hours for patients to fully recover after the procedure.
IV SEDATION
A local anesthetic is administered intravenously, or directly into a vein,
to ensure you experience no pain during your treatment. IV sedation is
a safe and easy option that is recommended for patients with moderate
to severe anxiety. With IV sedation, long, complex dental treatments seem
much shorter and our team can get more work done in a single visit. This
type of sedation can be quickly modified to your state consciousness and
can be continued as long as necessary for the procedure.
General Anesthesia Sedation Dentistry at Emerald City Smiles
In many dental practices, a trained dentist administers the IV sedation.
At Emerald City Smiles, because our patients comfort and safety is of the
highest concern all our IV sedation dental patients are monitored by an
expereinced and highly trained anesthesiologist.
Our anesthesiologist is specifcally trained to provide ambulatory anesthesia
in the dental office and carefully evaluates you to determine and deliver
the appropriate sedation or general anesthetic that is needed. Choosing
a dental practice that utilizes a highly trained anesthesiologist instead
of a trained dentist allows you to rest assured that the person administering
the IV sedation can safely manage and ameliorate any complications that
may arise during the dental procedure, ultimately providing an unsurpassed
